The member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Iwajowa, and Kajola constituency Hon. Najimdeen Oyeshina Oyedeji popularly known as Oshine unveiled his agenda for his constituents on Tuesday morning.
While speaking with press men in his country home at Baale Pamo Compound, Pamo, Okeho, Kajola Local Government, he shed light on his agenda for the next three and half years highlighting what priorities the people in his constituency should expect moving forward. Pronouncing agriculture and rural development as primal in his plans, the lawmaker also mentioned that his priorities cuts across education, youth development, women empowerment, and the protection of the girl child especially through the prevention of teenage pregnancy.
According to the lawmaker, “the focus on agriculture is designed to drive the economy of the region based on what we know how to do”.Unveiling his plans, he promised the people:”All the 4 local governments must benefit equally from our approach”The lawmaker from Okeho while soliciting for the support of all and sundry to accomplish his 4 year plan, shared his experience at the green chamber for the past 6 months, stressing the need for continuity and unity across board.
He described as malicious the insinuations that palliative from the presidency has been shared among leaders, and also discouraged the idea of stomach infrastructure which has so far been ineffective and unproductive in the country.Promising to key into the vision of the Seyi Makinde led state government to turn farming settlements into farming estates with added value in agriculture, he revealed plans to adopt a nucleus web based approach for rural development where less prominent farm settlements can leverage on developments in major farm settlements which will be prototypes to encourage massive investment in agriculture. He assured constituents that the reconstruction, rehabilitaion and grading of major roads and those leading to the farms will be addressed shortly mentioning especially the Okeho-Igana expressway which has been in a most terrible state for too long.
He underscored access to drinking water and solar electricity in farm settlements as some of the areas to be prioritised.In education, the lawmaker announced the commencement of an annual scholarship award for 42 qualified students at SAF Polytechnic, Iseyin, and an additional 4 to be extended to students in Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, The Polytechnic Ibadan, University of Ibadan, and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso. He revealed that plans have been initiated in collaboration with some of his associates in the diaspora to facilitate fully sponsored postgraduate scholarships abroad for qualified individuals.
A Scholarship Award Board will supervise the entire process for accountability according to the Honorable. He explained that while the undergraduate scholarships will involve the payment of school fees for 46 qualified students in tertiary institutions across the state, students who win postgraduate scholarships abroad will have their flight tickets sorted from his personal purse. He promised to assist students sitting for external examinations at the junior secondary and senior secondary levels with online lessons and past questions to improve their chances of success in their examinations.
For youth development, the Honorable announced the sponsorship of free business name registration for 100 individuals to be completed by May 2024. He disclosed that an innovation hub with modern facilities will be set up for computer literacy, and to help the youths keep up with the advancements in technology. He disclosed that an action plan will be set in motion by February in collaboration with United Nations Educational, Scientific Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to put an end to the scourge of teenage pregnancy.
Honourable Oyeshina equally disclosed plans to assist artisans and market women through the provision of essential work tools and cooperative funding to help them improve their livelihood. He promised to set apart N20,000 naira from his monthly salary which will be used as a funding pool to help artisans with roofing of their building projects as a means of support.
He particularly mentioned that the sum of N2.5M has been raised through the support of Okeho indigenes in diaspora as credit facility for market women.Reiterating his commitment to help farmers across all farm settlements in the federal constituency to improve their productivity, he stressed that 80 percent of the water projects to be executed will be in rural farm settlements while major towns will receive 20 percent.
He also announced the acquisition of a new tractor which will be made available to farmers at a subsided rate. He expressed optimism that each of the 4 local governments that make up the federal constituency will eventually have 1 tractor each and that the proceeds will be pooled together as a cooperative funding resource for farmers.
This according to him will help to harness the potentials of OkeOgun as the food basket of Oyo state. He pointed out that plans for value addition including the setting up of gàrrí, and èlùbó processing units and the provision of silos for farmers is already in place.
The deputy chairman of the House of Representatives committee on Ecological Funds gave his assurance that every local government in his Constituency would benefit from his presence in this committee amongst other commitee hinting that 2 local government at a time will soon receive the federal government assistance on erosion matters.Oshine appreciated leaders across all political parties for their support, and promised to maintain regular engagement with the people. He sought the prayers of all and sundry to accomplish the plans unveiled, promising to be available to interact with the people, and evaluate the progress made in the constituency.”As part of my surgery, the intention is that I need to be home… at least minimum every 3/3 months, to give an update on what we’re doing to know if there are ways we can do things differently”, he explained.He cautioned the people to be austere when it comes to festivities but rather focus on real investments that can improve the welfare of the people.
