A private jet with about 10 passengers on board including Very Important Personalities (VIPs) has overshot the runway at an airport crash-landing in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. Sources confirm the incidence which occured around 11 A.M on Friday, 26 January, 2024, at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan recorded no casualty.
The aircraft with registration number, N580KR, missed the runway, skidding into the nearby bush. Firefighters and rescue officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) were present at the scene to control the situation.
Spokesperson for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Carol Adekotujo confirmed the incidence, clarifying that no casualty was recorded.
“It was a private plane from Abuja. It landed safely but overshot the runway. There was no casualty,” she confirmed.
Equally speaking on the incidence, the spokesman for the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) Tunji Oketunmbi said a team had been dispatched to the site for a probe.
This latest occurrence is one of many aviation mishaps recorded in the past few months and this is coming even after the sacking, and replacement of heads of aviation agencies.
Sometimes in November, 2024, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, escaped death when a plane he was on board crash-landed at the same airport.
Today’s incidence which is now one too many will no doubt increase the several calls for an overhaul of the Ibadan Airport runway to guarantee the safety of lives.
