The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) at the 2023 Presidential elections Peter Gregory Obi visited Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state to commiserate with the people of Oyo State over the tragic Bodija explosion which rocked the state in January.
Expressing his appreciation, Governor Makinde revealed that the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 presidential election, and leader of his party, Atiku Abubakar, was yet to reach out to him over the explosion in Ibadan.
The Governor said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has also called him over the incident but Atiku who is the leader of his party, PDP, has not given him a call or text since the explosion in Ibadan, the state capital.
”I want to thank you especially for the visit. Out of the 3 major candidates who contested the 2023 election, only Atiku Abubakar, my own leader and our candidate hasn’t called to commiserate the state,” Makinde said in the video which has gone viral on social media,” Makinde said.
“I am saying this openly so that our leaders will know that we have time for politics and others. I want to thank you once again for coming.”
The Oyo State Government recently set up a platform for donations of money to the victims of the explosion which occured in Bodija. This was contained in a release from the Governor who underscored the need to take steps to support the victims of the fire incident to rebuild their lives.
The governor ialso thanked those who took part in the search and rescue operations at Ground Zero, especially the first responders from OYSEMA, medical workers and security agencies. He oozed centre again reiterated his administration’s commitment to secure justice for the victims of the explosion.
He explained that the details of the victims were being collated while steps to support rebuilding will be made public transport the appropriate time.
“We have also set up a platform for donations to victims. The money donated goes directly to the Landlords/Residents Association’s bank account,” Makinde said.
