Tragedy occurred yesterday in Okeho, kajola local government area of Oyo state when a promising footballer Oyekunle Baaki popularly known as B Smart slumped and died during a football match at 1st Baptist Primary School, Isia, Okeho.
Smart, 25 a player with United FC Okeho died while featuring in a quarter final match in Eleniyan football competition between his team and Accurate football club, Iganna.
According to the eye witnesses the tragic incident occured during the extra time after the match ended one goal a piece in 90 minutes.
“Before the match commenced, he snapped with some of the player uploaded it on his snapchat, he was alone, nobody was with him, he just slumped and people rushed to help him but he died before they got to the hospital.
Reacting to the incident, the secretary of Egbe Omo Ibile Okeho, Mr Michael Awojobi on behalf of the association commiserate with the family and the entire indigene of the town over the tragic loss.
Awojobi in a statement posted on Egbe Omo Ibile Okeho WhatsApp group said that the sudden demise is highly painful and disheartening. ” but we have to accept the will of Almighty ALLAH. May ALLAH give us the fortitude to bear the pain and immeasurable loss.Please accept our condolences.” The statement reads.
Also,.the organizing committee for the Eleniyan football competition has issued a statement describing the death as shocking and tragic.
“On behalf of Eleniyan Football Competition, Season 10, Kajola LGA, Oyo State, We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, associates, United Football Club of Okeho, sports lovers and the good people of Okeho on the tragic loss of MR. OYEKUNLE ABDUL-BAAKI (B-SMART), 25 years; a promising young life cut short.”
” May ABDUL-BAAKI (B-SMART) memory continue to inspire and motivate us to strive for excellence. Rest in peace, dear footballer. Your legacy will live on in our hearts. Adieu ABDUL-BAAKI (B-SMART).” the statement reads .
